Kinderschuhe 5K Run & Walk

New Braunfels Utilities partnered with Communities in Schools in 2004 to create Kinderschuhe 5K Run & Walk to purchase shoes for at-risk students within their school network. Since then, the annual event has become a staple in our community as citizens of all ages come out to support the cause and get some exercise!

Communities in Schools

Communities In Schools South Central Texas began more than 25 years ago by the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce to help students (grades K-12) achieve in schools, graduate, and be successful throughout their lives.

Today CIS is providing intensive and ongoing-case managed services to at-risk students across 35 schools in six school districts (New Braunfels, Marion, Comal, Luling, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City, and Seguin). Case-managed students receive targeted services such as supportive guidance/counseling, mental health intervention, health/human services (basic life needs such as shelter, food, and clothing), tutoring, and college preparation assistance.

Take a look at the 2019 Kinderschuhe 5K Run & Walk which raised more than $10,000 for Communities in Schools so they can purchase shoes for children in our community who may have had to go without them.

Since 2004, when Kinderschuhe, began, CIS has been able to provide more than 4,120 pairs of shoes to children, ages pre-kinder to 19 years old.
