Backup Generator Connection Procedure
When adding a backup generator to your home you must follow these steps.
The electrician must provide the generator owner’s email address and phone number.
Submit any permits obtained from the AHJ.
The electrician must provide a photo or the manufacturer’s drawing of the nameplate that includes the generator’s manufactured date, manufacturer’s name, model number, and serial number.
The catalog number should be for a double-throw, break before make transfer switch.
The diagram should:
- Show connections of all energy sources, transfer switches, and load-serving panels.
- Show overcurrent protection on the utility side of the transfer switch(es).
- Identify which equipment is proposed and which is existing.
The diagram should:
- Illustrate the arrangement of enclosures on the mounting structure.
- Illustrate conduit runs between enclosures.
- Include grounding electrode conductor conduits.
