ERCOT Issues Energy Emergency Alert Level 2 – Conservation CRITICAL
High Risk of Rotating Outages
(New Braunfels, TX – September 6, 2023) The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has declared an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) Level 2. Conservation is critical to avoid an electricity emergency, especially during the peak hours of 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Consumers are urged to reduce their electric consumption as much as possible. Steps to help reduce electricity use include:

An EEA Level 2 is issued by ERCOT when there is a likelihood that rotating outages will be needed to reduce load. Rotating outages are controlled, temporary interruptions of electrical service implemented by utilities when it is necessary for ERCOT to reduce demand on the system. This type of demand reduction is only used as a last resort to preserve the electric system’s reliability as a whole.
In these situations, as directed by ERCOT, each utility, including New Braunfels Utilities (NBU), is required to lower the demand on its system based on the percentage of the historic ERCOT peak demand. New Braunfels Utilities typically does this through rotating outages. Customers who experience these rotating outages can minimize power surges by turning off appliances, lights, and other equipment.
Customers are encouraged to view ERCOT’s daily peak demand forecast, current load, and available generation online at ercot.com or by downloading the ERCOT mobile app (available for download at the Apple App Store and Google Play). For the latest grid conditions updates, please follow ERCOT on Twitter (@ERCOT_ISO). ERCOT also offers the Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS). More information on how to sign up is available at ercot.com/txans.
New Braunfels Utilities encourages customers to enroll in our Electric Outage Text Notification program by texting “NBU” to 830.629.4628 or call 830.629.8400 during business hours Monday – Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Updates will be posted on nbutexas.com and NBU’s Facebook page at facebook.com/newbraunfelsutilities and Twitter at @nbutexas.
