The power of activating community to support our kids

New Braunfels Utilities, in collaboration with Communities In Schools of South Central Texas (CIS), created KinderKraft, a public donation drive benefiting New Braunfels-area students in need.

Guided by the firsthand experiences of Communities in Schools staff working with students in CISD and NBISD, the KinderKraft donation drive addresses the most basic and often urgent needs – like hygiene products, school supplies and clothing – that help local kids thrive. The partnership between NBU, CIS and the community allows more students to be served and is a true reflection of the power of community working together to build stronger connections between students, families and neighbors.

Donations will be accepted from March 7 through April 18, 2025. We are asking for the following donations:

  • New school supplies including backpacks, binders, notebooks, pens and pencils
  • New, unopened personal hygiene products including soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, laundry detergent, fabric softener and feminine hygiene products (Place liquid products in a bag to prevent leakage and damage to other donations.)
  • New socks, underwear, coats, belts and shoes in various sizes (kindergarten through high school)
  • Unopened non-perishable snacks like crackers, fruit snacks, nuts, granola bars, dried fruit, pretzels and jerky
  • Other new items such as headphones/earbuds, drawstring athletic bags, fidgets and Play-Doh

Communities In Schools of South Central Texas

Communities In Schools of South Central Texas began more than 25 years ago by the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce to help students (grades K-12) achieve in schools, graduate, and be successful throughout their lives.

Today CIS is providing intensive and ongoing-case managed services to at-risk students across 35 schools in six school districts (New Braunfels, Marion, Comal, Luling, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City, and Seguin). Case-managed students receive targeted services such as supportive guidance/counseling, mental health intervention, health/human services (basic life needs such as shelter, food, and clothing), tutoring, and college preparation assistance.
