(New Braunfels, TX – Oct. 1, 2024) – New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of America (GFOA). This is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and underscores NBU’s commitment to transparency and financial integrity.

NBU has received this prestigious award for 34 years, indicating its dedication to employing best practices and adherence to the rigorous standards in governmental accounting. NBU’s transparent practices ensure financial health, which plays a critical role in maintaining and enhancing essential electric, water, and wastewater treatment services.

“NBU’s commitment to sound financial practices and transparency is at the heart of our operations. I am immensely proud of our accounting team for their unwavering dedication, which has led to this well-deserved recognition,” said NBU Chief Financial Officer Dawn Schriewer. “This award is a testament to the effective management of our customers’ resources and our ongoing dedication to serving our community with excellence.”

The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments in going beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
