NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (March 17, 2025) – New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) announces the inaugural KinderKraft donation drive, benefitting New Braunfels-area students in need of basic supplies and personal items. This initiative continues the 20-year partnership with Communities In Schools of South Central Texas (CIS) and encourages community members to donate items from March 17 through April 28 at designated locations.

George Herrera, a current NBU employee and former CIS support recipient said, “CIS isn’t just a program—it was family to me. My parents worked hard to support all six of us, but it was still tough to make ends meet. CIS stepped in to provide backpacks, school supplies and even counseling during my parents’ divorce—things we desperately needed but didn’t know how to ask for. Their support gave me confidence in the classroom, helped me stay focused on succeeding in cross country and track and ultimately shaped my outlook on life. Now, through KinderKraft, I get to give back right here in our own community, making sure local kids feel as supported and empowered as I did. I’m living proof that what CIS does can truly change a life.”

Drawing on insights from campus-based CIS staff who work closely with local students and families, KinderKraft seeks donations for school supplies, personal hygiene products, clothing and non-perishable snacks. Only new and unopened donations will be accepted. Donations will be collected in marked donation boxes at the following New Braunfels locations:

  • NBU Customer Solutions Center – 1488 S Seguin Ave. – Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Das Rec – 345 Landa St. – Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • McKenna – 801 W. San Antonio St. – Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cranky Pickle – 624 Krueger Canyon – Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Communities In Schools – 161 S. Castell Ave. – Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Susan Wetz, CEO at CIS said, “NBU has supported CIS to provide shoes for our students for years through Kinderschuhe and now, this new chapter with KinderKraft, will expand the support to a wide variety of items that will provide much needed supplies. This will allow students to not worry about basic necessities but focus on learning and achieving their goals. We couldn’t be more excited!”
