About New Braunfels Utilities
About Us | New Braunfels Utilities
Who We Are
New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) is a community-owned utility providing reliable electric, water, and wastewater services to the people and businesses of New Braunfels and the surrounding area.

Since 1942, when the City Commission purchased the local electric system to serve the community, we’ve grown alongside this city — adapting, investing, and planning so essential services remain strong today and for generations to come..
As a non-profit, locally governed utility, every dollar collected in rates is reinvested back into the system – maintaining infrastructure, strengthening reliability and preparing for responsible growth. We do not answer to shareholders. We answer to the community we serve. New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees appointed by the New Braunfels City Council. The Board provides oversight of NBU’s electric, water and wastewater systems and is responsible for adopting the annual budget and setting overall policy direction.
Beyond the wires and pipes, we are your neighbors. We’re dedicated to building a thriving community through responsible stewardship, hands-on education, and thoughtful long-term planning that protects what makes New Braunfels special.

How Are We Involved with the City?
We support the community in a few key ways: we invest in electric, water, and wastewater infrastructure, and we also include City of New Braunfels services—like garbage and recycling—on the monthly bill. Each year, we provide a City transfer that helps fund essential services.
Our Mission
Strengthening our community by providing resilient essential services.
Our Vision
Be a trusted community partner dedicated to excellence in service.
