Better Information, Better Meters

NBU uses Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to provide customers with better information about their utility use and help support reliable service. Our current 10-year project will gradually replace and modernize water metering equipment across NBU’s service territory and enhance the technology used to provide utility services.

If you receive a text for planned water meter maintenance, here’s what you can expect:

NBU crews and authorized contractors are completing the upgrades throughout NBU’s service territory. Customers can identify crews by NBU-branded vehicles, along with appropriate identification.  

Customers should make sure NBU crews can safely access their meter. Please remove or relocate landscaping, decorations, personal equipment or other items that may prevent access to the meter or meter box. 

Customers should expect water service to be temporarily interrupted for approximately 15 to 20 minutes while crews complete the work/head

Your Water Meter

New Braunfels Utilities is investing in upgrades to our water and electric metering systems through Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). This 10-year project will gradually replace and modernize metering equipment across NBU’s service territory and enhance the technology used to provide utility services. 

These upgrades will provide NBU and our customers with better information about utility use while supporting more efficient and reliable service. Work will take place gradually throughout the community, and customers will be notified when maintenance or installation work may temporarily affect their service.

Your Electric Meter

NBU’s electric meters have already been upgraded with advanced metering technology.

These upgraded meters automatically communicate electric usage and meter information to NBU through a secure communications network. This gives customers more timely insight into their electricity use while providing NBU with better tools to monitor the system, identify issues and respond to outages.
