September 24, 2025***Phase 1 of the Gruene Rd Sewer Main Project is postponed. Currently, there is no work or traffic interruption. We will provide updates once the revised project schedule and traffic control plan have been finalized.***
New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) will begin construction on the Gruene Road Sewer Main Rehabilitation and Relocation Project, which is expected to start October 1, 2025, and be completed by spring 2026.
The project is divided into two phases with specific timelines and traffic plans:

Phase 1 (Oct. 1, 2025 to Feb. 1, 2026): Work will take place around the 1200 block of Gruene Road. To minimize the impact on residents and businesses, all construction will be performed at night during the week. Night work will occur Sunday through Thursday, 11 p.m. through 7 a.m., with no work planned on weekends. During construction, traffic will be reduced to one-way with flaggers to guide drivers safely through the area. No traffic impacts are expected during the day.
Phase 2 (Jan. 2, 2026 to April 15, 2026): Updates and details about this phase will be provided closer to the start date. The goal is to minimize impacts to the area.
The project, identified in NBU’s 2021 Wastewater Master Plan, will increase the capacity and reliability of wastewater service and odor control for the historic Gruene area.
The Gruene Road Sewer Main Rehabilitation and Relocation Project involves replacing an existing 12-inch sewer main with a larger 18-inch main in downtown Gruene. It also includes installing a new odor control unit along the 1200 block of Gruene Road to address existing odor issues. Additionally, NBU will replace aging 6-inch and 8-inch cast-iron siphon lines that cross the Guadalupe River at Gruene Road. The project is budgeted at $7 million.
NBU is committed to investing in critical infrastructure to provide reliable service and ensure the long-term health of the growing New Braunfels community. For more information on this project, visit Capital Improvement or call NBU Customer Service at 830.629.8400.
