NBU to begin neighborhood infrastructure improvements near downtown
June 2, 2026Project will replace aging infrastructure in multiple neighborhoods
New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) will begin a neighborhood water and wastewater infrastructure improvement project on June 8, 2026, to replace aging infrastructure in several areas near downtown New Braunfels, with construction anticipated to continue through November 2026.
The project includes work along E. Coll Street, South Market Avenue, Grant Street, Katy Street, Jackson Street, Marigold Drive and Mulberry Street.
Customers in the area can expect temporary single-lane shutdowns and no through traffic in active work zones during construction. Residents will maintain access to homes at all times. Minor temporary water service interruptions are also expected near the end of construction during final waterline tie-ins and service switchovers. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned service interruptions.
Construction will include approximately 3,000 linear feet of 4-inch to 8-inch water main and approximately 3,800 linear feet of 8-inch wastewater main. The infrastructure being replaced has deteriorated to the point that it no longer meets service requirements. The project represents an investment of approximately $5.2 million in infrastructure improvements that will help strengthen long-term system reliability, reduce the likelihood of service disruptions, and support continued water and wastewater service for customers in the area.
NBU and project contractors will work to minimize disruptions whenever possible and provide updates throughout the project.
Due to the nature of this project and possible weather impacts, dates and timelines are subject to change. Traffic impact maps and project updates will be available on the Capital Improvement Projects page
